What Are You Ready to Let Go Of?

The Fall Equinox happening today invites us to notice what is ready to be released.

But how do we know what we need to let go of? How do we find it if we don't know it's there?

I like to start by asking myself what is missing from the life my heart truly desires.

Sometimes it feels like it's simply divine timing. What I want isn't here yet, but I can feel it very close by. It doesn't feel like something is standing in my way.

Other times, I feel stuck. I notice that I’m not doing. Not moving. Not engaging with my life.

When I feel stuck like this, I start asking questions.

Notice

Where do I feel stuck, in my mind and in my body?

Sometimes our bodies notice something before our minds understand it. We might feel tension, heaviness, anxiety, or resistance when we think about a certain part of our lives.

I also look for patterns. Is there something that keeps happening in my relationships, work, choices, or thoughts? Am I finding myself in the same situation again and again?

Sometimes being stuck is sneaky and looks like “just relaxing,” but it’s really avoidance. We may know there is something we want to do, change, or face, but we keep putting it off. We tell ourselves we need to slow down or relax, we need more information, the timing isn’t right, or we’ll get to it later.

Sometimes those things are true. But if we look a little deeper, we may find something underneath—a fear, an uncomfortable feeling, or a belief we don’t want to look at.

Ask yourself:

What am I avoiding?

What do I keep saying I want to do but never seem to do?

Then I ask:

What would I do if I wasn't stuck?

What would I be doing if I were moving forward toward the things I want in my life?

Imagine yourself being and doing it.

What happens?

Does the thought create anxiety or fear? How does it feel in your body? Does your mind immediately give you reasons you can't do it?

Those reactions don't necessarily mean you shouldn't move forward. They may be showing you something that needs your attention.

Heal

Once we notice something, we can become curious about it instead of judging it. A lot of the time, simply noticing is enough.

What am I afraid of?

What do I believe would happen if I did what I really want to do?

Where did I learn that?

Maybe you discover an old belief: I'm not good enough. I can't do that. I have to take care of everyone else first. It's too late for me. Ask yourself if that belief is still true.

Sometimes healing means understanding where a belief came from. Sometimes it means giving ourselves the love, compassion, reassurance, or permission we needed when the belief was formed.

We don't have to judge the part of us that learned to be afraid. We can understand it and choose something different.

Release

Healing and releasing aren't the same thing.

We don't have to erase an experience or pretend it didn't happen to release it. It can remain part of our story without continuing to control what happens next.

Ask yourself:

What am I ready to stop carrying?

You might write down the fear, belief, expectation, or old story you are ready to release. Tear it up. Burn it safely. Bury it. Or simply say out loud that you are ready to let it go.

Go to the place in your body where you felt it and focus intentional healing energy on that location. Notice what happens. Does the feeling change, soften, move, or release?

Ask one more question:

What am I choosing instead?

Maybe courage.

Maybe freedom.

Maybe love.

Maybe the life your heart truly desires.

Fall Equinox Release Rituals

🍂 Simple Leaf Release Ritual Inspired by

Find a fallen leaf.

Hold it in your hands and name what you're ready to release.

Give it back to the earth and walk away.

🔥 A Witchier Release Ritual

Write what you're ready to release on a piece of paper.

Write what you're choosing instead on another.

Place them on either side of a candle to represent the balance of light and dark at the equinox.

Light the candle, spend a moment with both intentions, then safely burn the release paper.

Keep the other as you move into the new season.
